Thursday, January 2, 2003: Christmas post-mortem
It's 2003! Christmas was very good. The dinner went quite well; nothing got burned, it was mostly edible. The goose was a little dry and the cranberry apple stuffing was too tart to eat, and I really missed having a proper sage and onion bread-based stuffing. But those are all things that can be done differently next time. Goose is weird. We got a ten pound goose, from which flowed three full cups of fat. When it came time to "carve" (in quotes, because no-one in this family can really carve) we could barely find any meat. It took my sister-in-law's experience with dissection to release enough meat to feed seven. Actually, we had leftover meat, but it seemed perilous for a minute there. We did well in terms of material acquisitions, too, as you can see in the pictures page. The DVD player was a particularly nice surprise, since it's something that I'd secretly wanted but wouldn't have bought because we already have one in the laptop. For New Year's Eve we went to a house party up in Vaughan. It's the same party we've been to in the past, thrown by a university friend. The tradition at this particular party is to get really really hammered. I have adhered to that tradition in the past, but of course this year I just watched. Blake wasn't so lucky. He drank himself into a miserable hangover and had to stay in bed all day yesterday. We're getting to the age where you pay for three hours of drunken fun with fourteen hours of misery; it just doesn't add up. Good thing, too, since we're about to have a tiny baby to take care of. I should write about last year, or next year, or resolutions, or the lack thereof, or my new haircut, but it's almost 11:00 and I'm really tired, and I have to work tomorrow, alas. I hope I will have time to write another entry this weekend, but I'm not sure, since I have lots of singing to do, and TorontoCon, and I have to get groceries and go through all the baby clothes we've been given, and do all the usual weekend things, so I might not have time. I'll try really hard, though.
Last year, I made resolutions, got
Googled, and really liked the same stretch pinstriped pants that
I love now, and in fact that I wore today.
