Friday, January 17, 2003: Cold and restless
It's been cold here lately, seriously cold, like, 15 below. And not just for one or two days, but for a week, and it's supposed to stay like this for the forseeable future. It hasn't been this cold for this long since I moved to Toronto, I don't think. This is like a real winter. I think I'm starting to get used to it, too. The problem with these cold spells, normally, is that they only last for a day or two, and you don't get a chance to get used to the cold, and so it's horrifying and alarming. But after four or five days of it, you get the hang of bundling up, and the cold on your face isn't so shocking, and you start to understand how they manage to survive in seriously cold places. That's not to say I won't be happy when it goes away, but I don't feel like I'm about to die when I step outside, either.
I've been restless lately, restless and itchy and grumpy. I want a change. Usually when I feel like this I dye my hair, or buy stuff, but hair-dyeing is verboten and buying stuff just leads to owning stuff, which is a pain. (Besides, I can't buy clothes because I will never be this size again, at least not for more than a couple of weeks at a time.) So I've been eating lots of sweets and complaining about work, and buying new nail polish. I bought a bottle of Sally Hansen Chrome in White Gold, and it's really the colour of white gold. It's fantastic, except it's hard to get an even coat. I got it bundled with a bottle of nail hardener and a bottle of top coat, for $6.50. Sweet, no? This weekend I'm going to expend some of my nervous energy organizing. I have a whole assload of organizing projects that I've been avoiding, and this kind of mood is perfect for getting them done. Plus we don't have anything else to do this weekend apart from go to the cabinet place and pick out kitchen cabinets. No practicing. No dinner with the in-laws. Just some light housework and the Saturday Globe, and all the organizing my little heart desires.
Last year, I had a bad attitude,
and I got on well with my dad.
